Teams stayed active and other events went on until midnight Frideay night at the Sullivan County Relay for Life.
With the goal in mind of eventually snuffing out cancer, the Bladen County Relay for Life team is organizing its annual fundraising walk, which will be held on May 7 at Elizabethtown Middle School.
A ceremony will take place at 6:30 p.m. before a survivor and caregiver lap around the track at 7 p.m.
The money raised will go to cancer research.
Humphrey said 24 teams have signed up for this year, compared to 22 last year.
Ashley closed by expressing her thanks for the American Cancer Society for their efforts to find a cure.
Each year, hundreds of cancer survivors, along with their friends, family and loved ones, gather to remember those who have died from cancer and to celebrate those who survive the devastating disease.
Amidst all of these festivities, there are also powerful reminders of Relay For Life’s main goal.
The venue change and cramped quarters didn’t bother 16-year cancer survivor Ann Waldrop, who had to help set up Liberty United Methodist Church’s tent twice, once at the football field and again in the gym.
“We picked the theme in honor of Gov. Larry Hogan being diagnosed with cancer”, Hodge said.
Cancer Council Queensland Relay For Life Co-ordinator Tom Turner said the survivors’ and carers’ lap was an opportunity to unite with others who had been through a similar experience.
Organizers pledge a slimmed-down version of Relay For Life of Olentangy wil fature the same enthusiasm and emotion evident in events conducted in years past.
We’ve lost track of the plattitudes and cliches that surround an event like Relay for Life.
Rikard said about $10,000 was raised the night of Relay, and more than $54,000 has been raised in total.
“It will be very sad because it’s a long-standing event in the community. We are so fortunate to get new teams each year”. “We have a whole lot of range in our ages from young to old”.
