Kazmir helps Dodgers shut out Padres 2nd straight game, 3-0

There wasn’t anything for the Padres to celebrate.

Through two games in the season-opening series, the Padres have yet to score a run.

“There is still perspective here, not to be lost”, Padres rookie manager Andy Green said. “We still do have 159 games left and we will score runs this year. We will score runs this year”. The Padres are the first team in major league history to be shut out in their first three games. With the 27 inning scoreless streak, San Diego surpassed the 26 inning record set back in 1943 by the St. Louis Browns.

At the helm of all the success was Dave Roberts, on the Dodgers’ bench for his first three games as a full-time manager.

“But in the grand scheme of things, it’s one loss in 162 games”. Maeda spent eight years in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball League before joining the Dodgers this year.

As far as openers go, the Dodgers couldn’t have scripted a better first series. I didn’t execute my pitches. Nomo, the first Japanese player to permanently join the majors, is now a special adviser to the Padres’ baseball operations.

Maeda attempts to begin living up to those lofty expectations as he tries to help the Dodgers complete a season-opening three-game sweep of the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.

Tied at 20th for total home runs, San Diego and Los Angeles have each hit zero homers this season.

“I felt great”, Shields said. And got the silent treatment after his homer. His second homer, a three-run shot in the eighth off Arnold Leon, gave the Rays a lead they would not relinquish.

Scott Kazmir (1-0) defied the critics in his Dodgers debut, throwing six innings of shutout ball allowing just one-hit with no walks and five strikeouts. But it happens when guys want it really bad. “That’s all I thought about”. San Diego could very well contend in 2016, but they’re probably on the periphery of the real races even if they do, so if the result of the first half of the season is the Padres know for a fact they have to make midseason trades to hasten the rebuilding process, well, that’s sort of going according to plan, anyway.

“I was surprised but then everybody moments later came”. “I was a little nervous at first”.

With runners on first and third and one out in the sixth inning, the Dodgers’ corner infielders drew in a few steps. Before the first inning was over the Dodgers were already ahead of the Padres by four runs and did not slow down from there. Wil Myers hit a ground ball to first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, who threw to catcher A.J. Ellis in pursuit of a hard out at home plate.

Nationals 3, Braves 1: Pinch-hitter Matt den Dekker, recalled from the minors earlier in the day, had a tiebreaking, two-run double in a three-run seventh inning for Washington. “That is our opportunity”.

The Padres nearly scored a run in the 6th inning.

With Seager on board via a one-out single, Justin Turner hit a sharp ground to the right of Ramirez.
