‘Keanu’ devoured by ‘The Jungle Book’ for box office weekend
The weekends debuts withered under the stampede of The Jungle Book.Keegen-Michael Key and Jordan Peeles feline action-comedy Keanu opened with a modest $9.4 million.

Second place went to the holdover sequel, The Huntsman: Winter’s War, with over $9-million.
Warner Bros.’ R-rated Keanu, from the former Comedy Central stars of Key and Peele, cost only about $15 million to make.
Directed by Garry Marshall, the picture drew very different responses from audiences and critics.
“Ratchet & Clank“, the animated big-screen version of a Sony PlayStation game, opened with an estimated $4.8 million, well below analyst expectations that went as high as $10 million.
The last weekend in April is normally rather quiet at the box office, since it represents the calm before the storm that is the summer movie season.
While it doesn’t open domestically until May 6, Captain America: Civil War debuted in 37 worldwide markets this weekend, posting an impressive $200.2 million in its global debut.

Little Mowgli and the rest of his pack star in the No. 4 film of 2016 to date domestically and globally. “Barber Shop: The Next Cut”, $6.1 million; 6. Romantic suspense drama “Phantom of the Theater” earned $7.85 million for third place.
The weekend’s other newcomer, Ratchet & Clank, ended up scoring the seventh spot with $4.8 million.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was down three to #9 in its sixth weekend with $3.8 million (down 31%). The foreign ticket sales are almost triple what the film has managed to bring in here in the U.S. ‘Criminal, ‘ $1.3 million. While one might not think of these movies as big contenders, it is interesting to see that these new movies were unable to really put a dent in the box office domination of The Jungle Book. Previous year was led by The Avengers: Age of Ultron’s $191.3 million start. This past weekend’s earnings of $43.7 million marked the sixth-best third weekend of all time.
