Keep Van Gaal at Manchester United, says Phil Neville
But Neville has pleaded with his former club to stick with their manager. Several papers claim the United board are considering their options following the Reds latest loss.

Cries of Mourinho’s name could be heard around Old Trafford on Saturday when United slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City.
United are supposedly offering Mourinho a salary of about £6 million a year, which is what Louis van Gaal is now earning.
Louis van Gaal will conduct his pre-match press conference as normal on Wednesday as pressure on his position intensifies.
But he may not be out of work for long with Van Gaal under huge pressure after going six games without a win at United.
The Dutchman could even be axed if United lose at Stoke on Boxing Day but the players remain determined to turn results around with the fans increasingly unhappy.
To add to the talk, Mourinho is believed to have always wanted the job at Old Trafford, and he was strongly linked with becoming Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor in 2013 before David Moyes was appointed.
United have crashed out of the Capital One Cup and the Champions League and slipped from top to fifth in the Premier League, nine points behind leaders Leicester.
“And the reason being, if I imagine Manchester United as what they’ve been over the last 50 or 60 years and what they’ve been about – winning trophies – Jose massively ticks that box; but bringing young players through? No”.
Mourinho has made it clear to United that he wants the job, despite having a close relationship with the man he might ultimately replace, but sources in Portugal say it has not reached the stage where he has been made a firm offer.
Although United could stomach another year out of the Champions League in a financial sense, the damage to the club’s standing in the game would be hit if they were not in Europe’s top club competition next season.
Pep Guardiola, now in charge of Van Gaal’s old club Bayern Munich, will also become available in the summer after announcing he is leaving the German giants, but he is also wanted by United’s local rivals, Manchester City.

Van Gaal’s cause hasn’t been helped by reports that he has lost the support of senior United players, although publicly they continue to back the former Barcelona boss.
