The department recommends trick-or-treating during daylight hours only, and that children never be allowed to go out alone on Halloween.

“You want a responsible adult to go through the candy before the kids have access to it to make sure there’s nothing that looks suspicious”, Baker said.

Check all the candy that your kids recieve before letting them eat it.

You can pick up a reflective trick-or-treat bag at the Center for Childhood Safety in Green Bay, 842 S Military Ave. It is also one of the most unsafe.

Wiltshire Police “No trick or treat” posters are available for you to display if you don’t want trick or treaters at your door this Halloween.

Additionally, starting Halloween night AAA’s free Tipsy Tow Program will be running from 6 p.m.to 6 a.m. Which offers a free tow service for those drinking. The chances of getting into a serious or fatal collision are multiplied when there are lots of kids and teens out on the streets.

Trick-or-treaters should remain in the doorway or on the doorstep, when trick-or treating. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.

Carry a flashlight or light stick.

“Halloween is a great time to discuss a few of the real-world situations children may face and build up their safety competence”.

Sidewalks should be used where there is one, otherwise walk facing traffic.

Make sure older children take friends and stay together while trick-or-treating. Masks often obstruct a child’s vision, which makes tasks like crossing the street and going up and down stairs risky. Be extra aware of cars parking on the street or backing out of driveways.
