Overnight, protesters smashed windows and glass doors at a downtown Hyatt hotel and punched two employees, the hotel’s manager told Reuters.
The curfew will be lifted at 6 a.m., per Mayor Jennifer Roberts’ order.
“Black lives don’t matter in this country”, said a 34-year-old protester with a mask around his neck who identified himself only as “Amen-Ra”.
A state of emergency was in place after rioting on Wednesday and Thursday left about a dozen officers and protesters hurt, including a man who was shot and critically wounded.
City officials set a midnight curfew Thursday to forestall any further violence and property destruction. Gov. A murder investigation is under way. North Carolina’s governor declared a state of emergency in the city.
As midnight approached, crowds thinned out but demonstrators remained on the streets.
Curry noted that in Boston, police video is quickly released to a select group of family, community members, watchdogs and other stakeholders while the investigation is ongoing.
And according to the Charlotte Police Department, a black plainclothes officer wearing a vest marked “Police” shot 43-year-old Keith Scott on Tuesday only after the man exited a auto holding a gun, then refused several clear commands to drop it.
The family of a black North Carolina man, whose death in a police shooting triggered two nights of riots, viewed videos of the episode and asked for them to be made public.
Mr Pittenger later released a statement apologising for what he said. “I am going to honor that request”. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Thursday, prosecutors charged a white officer with manslaughter for killing an unarmed black man on a city street last week.
Chaotic protests broke out Tuesday and Wednesday in Charlotte after a black man was shot to death by a police officer. Scott’s family and neighbors said he was holding a book. The police chief said a gun was found next to the dead man, and there was no book.
Putney told reporters the video “does not give me absolute definitive visual evidence that would confirm that a person is pointing a gun” but that the evidence “taken in totality” supports the police version of events that led to the fatal shooting of Keith Lamont Scott.
“We had a lot of looting at a lot of businesses”, Putney said, adding that state police and National Guard troops would help to secure the area on Thursday.
“When we look at what happened to Mr. Scott and what has happened around the country with individuals being shot down by law enforcement, we can’t talk about those incidents in isolation because we have to look at the root problem”, Bamberg said.
The Scott family was supposed to watch the video Thursday afternoon, according to the family’s attorney, Justin Bamberg.
The lawyer said at a news conference earlier in the day that Scott’s wife witnessed his killing, “and that’s something she will never, ever forget”. Three uniformed officers at the shooting scene had body cameras; Vinson did not, police said.
“We’ve seen videos leaked online about individuals losing their lives before the family has the opportunity to sometimes even find out”, Bamberg said.

“It’s time for the voiceless majority to stand up and be heard”, said the police chief, who is black.
