The Leicester East MP resigned as chairman of the powerful House of Commons Home Affairs Select Committee on Tuesday after becoming caught up in the sex scandal.

The two men, who last week alleged the shamed Labour MP had engaged in secret trysts with them, have apologised to Mr Vaz’s family – but say he “only has himself to blame”.
He said: “It was so quick, I saw him and I called my friend, I shouted, ‘Quickly, quickly, come quickly'”.
“It’s absolutely awful because it’s affected all of us, because it’s affected the kids”.
Maria Fernandes said she had chose to give the high-profile former minister a second chance, but warned he needs to change or “I’ll sling him out”.
The Sunday Mirror had published pictures that it said showed Vaz, 59, with male sex workers, while illegal drugs were mentioned during a secretly recorded conversation.
Police are to “assess and identify what offences, if any, may have been committed” in relation to newspaper allegations about the MP Keith Vaz and male prostitutes. In leaving the role he has held since 2007, Mr Vaz did not refer directly to the Sunday Mirror story but said “Those who hold others to account, must themselves be accountable”. But we feel exposing a public person like Vaz is the right thing.
They made further startling allegations that the married father of two offered to fly them overseas with more male escorts, and wanted “lots of boys” to join him on the foreign jaunts.
The escort also spoke about a job offer from the MP, adding: “He texted me and said he wanted someone to work as a driver for three days at the weekend, then for any other days for a charity”.
MPs on the select committee told him they were prepared to resign or force a vote of no confidence if he refused to step down.
The probe centres on claims that Vaz offered to pay for cocaine for the two rent boys.

The men claimed Mr Vaz suggested flying them overseas to Tunisia or Morocco and offered money for each male prostitute they supplied. I had to say, “It’s OK, we can be strong”.
