Mr. Upadhyay attacked Mr. Kejriwal saying that it seemed he was “out to prove that the saying “when Rome was burning Nero was fiddling” aptly fit on him”.

His deputy Manish Sisodia targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, saying the crowd at the station was part of a conspiracy.

The BJP supporters chased the AAP leader as he entered the platform to board the train for Ludhiana and angrily shouted slogans.

The AAP which is contesting assembly elections in the state of Punjab for the first time has been at the centre of controversy in the state. The protest was against the alleged exploitation of women in AAP, which has got a new name by the Congress as Anti Aurat Party.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal began his four-day Punjab tour with an itinerary focused mostly on the state’s Malwa region.

The official spokesperson of the Delhi government alleged that the Delhi Police allowed the manhandling of the chief minister by leaking reports that no security will be provided for his visit.

However, the Punjab Police has been requested to provide security to Kejriwal during his visit to the state, police sources said.

“We came here to talk to him very politely, along with a bouquet”. Any VIP going to any other state is not provided “all components of security”, said the officer, adding that security is a matter of law and order which is a state subject.

AAP’s Delhi MLA Devinder Sehrawat also wrote to Kejriwal alleging that women were being exploited in return for tickets in Punjab. “But now, a letter from DCP (security) has informed that he can not be given security during his Punjab visit”.

“Why did this happen despite the police being informed about the Chief Minister’s schedule?”
