“He said the Centre and the Delhi police will fully support the move”. A committee has been formed to chalk out details of the proposal. These buses will run through Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

Terming the national capital’s public transportation system as “undeveloped and unsafe”, the petitioner has said that it would create problems for women who travel alone as well as differently-abled persons who use modified vehicles to commute. The Delhi government has also served notices to a number of major projects across Delhi, including the under-construction Parliament House annexe building and a wing of Supreme Court, asking each of them to deposit compensation amount of Rs. 50,000 for flouting dust pollution norms. “They could and may be exempted with other cases of emergency as per the viewpoint that is emerging”, Kejriwal told reporters.

Today, the High Court has refused to pass the interim order to stay Aam Aadmi Party’s government’s decision of moving cars through odd-even formula.

Interestingly, Singh also advised Kejriwal to find alternative ways to tackle pollution, looking at sources other than vehicles, especially industrial units not following emission norms and burning of leaves.

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Delhi Home Minister Satyendar Jain were also present in the meeting where Kejriwal raised the issue of installation of CCTV cameras across Delhi as well.

Minister Rai said 1,000 low-floor buses would be bought immediately to meet the need for more public transport when the number of vehicles falls steeply on the roads from January 1. The chief minister later described Singh’s response as “very positive”.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Dialogue Commission held a day-long consultation with over a dozen providers to enable and expand ride-sharing, carpooling, and shuttle services for the citizens of Delhi.

“The consultations focused particularly on security features such as verification process of the identities of drivers and riders who participate via carpooling apps, audit log mechanisms, liabilities and SOS alert mechanisms”.
