Meanwhile, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia, who were locked in a running battle with Jung for a long time, today separately met the LG at Raj Niwas. She is an able candidate who can take over the reins from Jung. But as of now, it’s still all in the realm of speculation.
Najeeb Jung thanked the prime minister for the – help and cooperation he received during his tenure as the 20th lieutenant governor of the Delhi.
A source said that Mr Jung had on Tuesday again requested the PM that he wanted to quit, as he was keen to write a book and pursue academics. Seen as a highly ambitious individual, the Lt Governor was certainly not expected to resign after spending long months in following orders to impose nearly continuous hurdles in the way of the Delhi government that led to a bitter war of words, and tensions between the CM and Lt Governors offices.
Speaking to reported outside the official residence of Jun, Kejriwal said that the 65-year-old had not given him any new details for his decision.
The chief minister was in Ranchi when the news of Jung’s resignation broke.
Mr Jung was an appointee of the earlier UPA government who got along exceedingly well with the present dispensation.
In a bid to teach a lesson to the “anti-national” students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, the BJP may appoint Jung as the vice-chancellor of the university.
He was appointed in July 2013 by the then Manmohan Singh government at the Centre.
In another development, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi proceeded on leave, raising doubts if it was linked to the Jung episode. He had resigned one-and-a-half years before his tenure which will end in 2018.
AAP alleges that as the center’s representative in Delhi, Jung used his veto to strike down several Delhi government decisions in recent months.

‘Kejriwal has turned Delhi into a centre of devious politics engaging in allegations and counter allegations without doing any work on the ground, ‘ Tiwari alleged. It’s hard to digest the fact that he might have done so voluntarily, without being pushed away. “There is still time for Kejriwal to change his ways”.
