Defending Gandhi for his comments, Dixit said, “Rahul ji has his heart with these poor people”. He had accused the Delhi government and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Centre for the razing of the slum and asserted that the law had been clearly broken during the demolition.
“In principle, it was decided that there will be no demolition anywhere without rehabilitation in the coming days”, Kejriwal said after the meeting.
In the letter, the Delhi Chief Minister also drew Prabhu’s attention towards an old communiqu between the two regarding new Delhi Slum Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2015, which is now under Union Ministry of Urban Development’s examination.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report of the seven-month old baby girl who died in the Shakur Basti area post the demolition drive stated that the death was due to shock, “as a result of chest and head injury due to blunt force impact”.
Petitioner advocate Prem Pal Singh said the plea filed yesterday by a Congress leader had only sought rehabilitation of the people, who were rendered homeless in biting cold.
Earlier, Mann attacked the Railways for the incident and said that even the Supreme Court has ruled that no such anti-encroachment drive could be carried out without providing for alternate arrangement. We will fight for you and won’t let this gross injustice happen to you.
He further added that the railways should have waited of another three-four months for the winter to get over but Delhi government should immediately act and arrange for flats with its Slum Board. “Whenever a slum is demolished, call Rahul Gandhi”.
Gandhi said: “We will try to help you… Where were Congress activists when Home Minister Satyendar Jain and AAP Delhi unit convenor Dilip Pandey were at the site trying to halt the demolitions”. The counsel for railway was unable to give a reply to the court’s query.
Railways had undertaken a demolition drive at Shakurbasti on Satuday removing about 1,200 slums and shops in the area.

Kejriwal promptly hit back, saying Gandhi was a “kid” who did not know that the railways which carried out the razing was controlled by the central, not Delhi, government.
