Kelly denies any contact with USC

The rumors appeared to have intensified this season thanks to the recent struggles of his team.

Although the Birds are only a game out of first in the NFC East, the team is 4-7 this season and coming off embarrassing, one-sided losses to the Buccaneers and the Lions. However the coach has a simple message to everyone. “No., I am not involved in any college jobs. Nope. I promise you that”, he said. “I was never looking at the Florida job previous year”.

Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly Monday denied reports that the University of Southern California met with him to discuss its coaching vacancy before the school hired interim coach Clay Helton.

Kelly said that he did not have a definitive update on Ertz at the time of his Monday press conference but believed that the only remaining hurdle was the tight end being cleared by an independent neurologist before he could return to the practice field.

A source told McMurphy that USC never talked with Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly, but school officials did have discussions with a representative of FSU coach Jimbo Fisher and former Rutgers coach Greg Schiano – along with other current National Football League coaches and assistants. “I’ve never emailed anybody from USC”.

“I have never spoken to anybody from USC. I never had any contact with Southern California”.

Kelly’s future with the Eagles is still unclear. The Eagles don’t need any more distractions with their season spiraling out of control. But Kelly insisted (again) that he’s staying put.

“There are so many things that are written and said nowadays”, said Kelly.

“A lot of times we just chuckle and laugh….”

Some wonder if it will be in Kelly’s hands as far as if he will be back after the season.

How does Eagles coach grade Byron Maxwell’s performance? “People can write or tweet – I don’t know the rules”. “Then everybody takes it as the truth”.

Kelly said all of that comes from outside of the NovaCare Complex where he goes to work every day.
