Kelly: Mathews will get carries if Murray can’t play

However, after just two weeks, all indications are that it’s time for Kelly to go back to the drawing board, as nothing – with the exception of the Eagles passing attack – seems to be clicking.

And if they can’t, then it may be another three and a half hours of hard viewing for Eagles fans and another week of scrutiny for Kelly.

We’re just two weeks into the season, and already the noise is deafening. “Nothing worked”. The last regular season game they won was December 28th, 2014 versus the New York Giants.

Which brings about this segue: Murray’s brain at various times during Sunday’s 20-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys looked about ready to explode right out of his helmet like that of an astronaut who experiences a pressure leak in outer space.

Murray had too many carries last season and was due to start breaking down. So much for preseason impressions. At all. Marshall will have a two-touchdown performance, Fitzpatrick will throw for over 300 yards and may even add a couple more touchdowns. He cited plenty of free agents and former Oregon players that have joined Chip’s revolution in Philadelphia. The NFL’s dominant leading rusher just one season ago has gathered 11 yards on 21 carries so far this year. Perhaps it is that DeMarco Murray can’t make people miss in the backfield like LeSean McCoy used to.

“The coaches have been preaching (turnovers) ever since Day 1 and we were able to get some for the second week in a row”, nose tackle Damon Harrison said.

Well I’m like most when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles and their win loss record right now.

Chip Kelly adamantly denied that his offense was either tipping plays or operating with any kind of predictability, blaming the issues instead on the players and their execution.

A week after the Jets got the Colts and Andrew Luck at their dysfunctional worst, they get the Eagles, who at the moment are Public Enemy No. 1 on the Philadelphia sports scene, which is not a comfortable place to be.

On the other side of the football, things haven’t exactly gone the way defensive coordinator, Bill Davis drew it up prior to the start of the season.

Backup running back Ryan Mathews, who would take over if Murray was out, said after practice that he didn’t think the injury was serious and that Murray would be back at practice Thursday.

Despite the high takeaway rate, the Jets only have three sacks on the season. Um, this isn’t good when traveling to New York to play possibly the best defense in the NFL.

Kelly finally acknowledged that linebacker Kiko Alonso, who reinjured his surgically-repaired knee in Sunday’s loss to the Cowboys, probably won’t play this week against the Jets.
