Kelly Ripa absent for Michael Strahan’s ‘Live!’ departure announcement

As previously reported, Michael Strahan will be leaving Live! in September and making his way over to Good Morning America as a full-time correspondent.

However, what’s slightly more interesting now than the story itself is the way in which the aftermath is playing out … in part because of the way in which the news first broke.

A source told Access Hollywood exclusively on Wednesday that Michael was “not super thrilled” to be working on the daytime talk show, but his co-host wasn’t the problem.

Strahan was initially not going to address his exit on the show, but he changed his mind just minutes before going live and said he would make a brief mention, our source notes.

“Everybody who is watching this show, four years ago when I came here, you still continued to watch this show”, he said. For whatever reason, nobody seems to leave this show without there being some sort of hoopla.

When Regis Philbin left “Live With Regis & Kelly” in January 2011, he didn’t break the news to Ripa until moments before they went live.

However, Kelly, 45, is reportedly “livid” after she was not informed ahead of the announcement made by Disney executives.

When will Kelly Ripa be back?!

“We are thrilled to say that Michael Strahan will be joining us every morning”, Roberts said on-air. “No quote from her anywhere wishing him well”, the source added to People. ‘Kelly has been an unbelievable partner, and I am so thankful to her and the entire team.

Strahan, 44, a former defensive end for the Giants, had been making appearances on ABC’s “GMA” twice a week for two years.

Despite Ripa’s absence on Wednesday, the man of the moment, Strahan, graciously thanked his work wife on Live on Wednesday.
