Ken doll cake with a twist goes viral
A Sacramento bakery is getting a lot of buzz over a specialty cake.

It’s at the Freeport Bakery kitchen were carefully crafted cakes and desserts are made every day – except a special birthday request for a Ken doll cake came with a slice of controversy on social media.
The buttermilk cake wasn’t meant to be transgender specifically, says bakery co-owner Marlene Goetzeler. “I was kind of surprised”, said Goetzeler told KTXL.
The bakery owner said that the customers had been “thrilled” with the cake despite the nasty online reaction from some.
The bakery owner says she did lose some followers on Facebook due to the Ken doll cake, but she says overall the response has been positive.
“I don’t think there’s anything negative about it”, customer Cher Moun said.
She said some people took the playful image and turned it into a real life LGBT debate. The bakery lost dozens of Facebook likes and Goetzeler feared it could damage her business, all because of the post. “We have bigger problems to worry about”.
“I actually naively just thought it was a really great cake”.
Many customers began to leave negative comments, “unlike” their page, and say they won’t make purchases there. “I bought a Fruitbasket cake at your bakery this morning”.
“Oh, I thought it was fantastic”, said Chad Graham, a guest at the birthday party where the cake was served, to the TV station.
“I think this cake is fabulous!”
“In the beginning, I thought ‘What’s the big deal?’ but now I realize how important it is to take a stand if you believe in something”, said Goetzeler.
The cake was ordered for a member of a dice club group.

“After posting this we had a ton of people unliking our Facebook page”. I deleted the rude remarks, thank goodness not too many. The post has received nearly 2,000 reactions – none of which show the “laughing” emoji, but the same can’t be said for the original post – and more than 300 powerful comments.
