Ken Stabler nominated as Seniors Committee candidate for Hall of Fame

Ken Stabler is getting another shot at making the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The nomination came from the Senior’s Committee. However, the senior candidates and the contributor candidate are discussed and voted on for election individually from the modern-era finalists when the Selection Committee holds its annual meeting before the Super Bowl. Stabler and Dick Stanfel will be the nominees of the Seniors Committee for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2016.

The only downside of it is that Stabler won’t be around to see it if he is indeed inducted. Sadly, it’s coming after his death on July 8 from cancer.

In a five-year span with the Oakland Raiders, the Foley, Alabama native led the Raiders to a Super Bowl win (1976)- two years earlier Stabler was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. He compiled a. 661 winning percentage over his 15-season career with the Raiders (1970-79), Oilers (1980-81) and Saints (1982-84).

Most Alabama fans will always remember him for the “Run in the Mud” against Auburn or his time on the radio during games for the Crimson Tide Sports Network.

The announcement means that both Stabler and Stanfel will be one of the 18 finalists for induction next year.
