She enjoyed nods for Album of the Year for “1989” – which marked her transition from country to pop – as well as Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Blank Space”.
Elsewhere, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd picked up seven nominations.
Sam Hunt, another nominee in the Best New Artist category, is another one to watch.
As for Swift’s former genre, country music (she previously announced that “1989” was her first official pop album), Chris Stapleton got a huge amount of attention after winning the major Album of the Year award as well as others at this year’s CMA Awards.
Other Canadian nominees include Justin Bieber for best dance recording for “Where Are U Now;” Dan Snaith of Dundas, Ont., who performs as Caribou, for best dance/electronic album for “Our Love;” Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter Alex Cuba for best Latin pop album for “Healer”. Lamar also has two chances in the best music video category, for those same two songs.
“To Pimp a Butterfly” and “Beauty Behind the Madness”, The Weeknd’s sophomore work, were also in contention for Album of the Year.
Lorde was not among the nominees: her only new music release of the year – a collaboration on Disclosure’s single “Magnets” – missed out on a nod. “Hamilton” did pick up a nomination for best musical theater album. Album of the Year includes Alabama Shakes, and relative newcomer Chris Stapleton, who swept this year’s CMAs as well. “City”, and was nominated in seven categories in the 2014 awards. The 58th Grammy Awards air February 15 at 8 p.m. on CBS.
The nominations even included a couple of Louisiana-born superstars, with Delhi, LA native Tim McGraw receiving a nomination in the Best Country Song category for his tune “Diamond Rings and Old Barstools”.
The nominees for the Best R&B Album category are Coming Home by Leon Bridges, Black Messiah by D’Angelo, Cheers To The Fall by Andra Day, Reality Show by Jazmine Sullivan, and Forever Charlie by Charlie Wilson. You can bet she’ll be all over the 2017 Grammys.
There are only so many nominations to go around, so of course the Grammys still managed a few head-slapping snubs.

With this new nomination, Sanz is out to grab his fourth Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album, a distinction he previously earned with “No Es lo Mismo” (2003), “El Tren de los Momentos” (2007) and “Paraiso Express” (2010).
