Kenseth summoned to NASCAR headquarters for post-suspension comments

“As deliberate as that was [Kenseth’s suspension] needed to be done”.

Despite leading the Sprint Cup Series with six victories and a 9.9 average finish this season, Joey Logano will not be amongst the final four competing for the championship next weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway. “In fact, I think he got out lucky with two races instead of three”, Petty told media members Saturday at Phoenix global Raceway.

When Matt Kenseth wrecked Joey Logano at Martinsville Speedway and put his title hopes in dire jeopardy, there were more cheers than boos from the grandstands at the legendary short track.

Two weeks ago at Martinsville, Kenseth extacted his revenge by crashing Logano’s auto into the track wall.

“I have great fans, awesome fans, but then there are a few that just come up, and I start laughing because it’s so creative”, Logano said.

Petty won 200 races and seven Cup championships in his NASCAR career.

Petty said the team needs sponsorship to go along with the driver. NASCAR “couldn’t get ahead of that deal”. “I never got in to in that deal”.

Beyond just the act of turning Kenseth, it was also how Logano conducted himself afterward that further frustrated Kenseth and others.

Busch was second and the highest-qualifying driver still eligible for the championship. Armed with fresh tires and a head-to-head opportunity, Logano knows he would have at least tried to make it interesting. When asked if Hornish would be the driver next year, Petty said, “No, I don’t think so”. I took people out and they took me out, and it was deliberate, but it wasn’t that brazen. “We’d do it on the backstretch where nobody could see us”.

“A bad attitude is just as contagious as a good attitude, so I think making sure your head is in the right spot helps keep the rest of the team motivated and thinking positively as we should”.
