The Global Fund, a public-private partnership, is seeking $13 billion from worldwide donors for its 2017 to 2019 funding cycle at a conference due to begin on Friday in Montreal, Canada.
“The commitments we’re making here in Montreal are an opportunity to show that even in challenging times, we still care and we’re willing to invest in the things that will make a more equitable, prosperous and secure world for people everywhere”, Gates said.
But it needs to raise another $13 billion to fund its operations over the next three years through 2019.
“The impact of AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria is far reaching, and we know that these diseases disproportionately affect the world’s poorest and most vulnerable, especially women and children”.
By uniting around a common vision of a better and healthier future, the worldwide community can fight diseases more effectively, and tackle the associated issues – including poverty, lack of access to education, and social and political inequality – which disproportionately impact women, girls, and young people.
“We are the generation that can bring these epidemic under control”, he said.

Additionally, the Global Fund buys drugs in bulk, he said, which makes them cheaper and more accessible.
