Kenya honors troops slain in Somalia with memorial service

Al Shabaab, which has links to al Qaeda and seeks to overthrow Somalia’s Western-backed government, said it had killed more than 100 soldiers in the attack.

On the day of the memorial service for the Kenyan troops, Kenyan police revealed that five of their officers had been killed in the coastal county of Lamu the day before when their truck hit an improvised explosive device planted by suspected al-Shabab militants.

He said after the memorial service in Eldoret, Buhari would proceed to Nairobi for bilateral talks on Thursday with Kenyan Government officials led by President Kenyatta.

The President applauded the bravery of Nigerian and Kenyan soldiers, and others around the world “who have remained faithful and committed to the cause of ensuring a secure and peaceful world in spite of daunting challenges”.

Buhari paid special tribute to the Kenyan soldiers who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on their base in Somalia.
