Kenya hosts Japan-sponsored conf. on growth in Africa
The agreement is scheduled to be signed by Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Mr. Henry K. Rotich, Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury of the Republic of Kenya, in Nairobi, Kenya, where the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) will be held.

Accompanied by his wife Akie Abe, the Japanese prime minister received a 19-gun salute at State House before inspecting a Kenyan Air Force honor guard.
According to Esipisu, Kenya hosts one of the largest Japanese communities in Africa, adding that Nairobi is also the regional headquarters for agencies like Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) as well as its largest businesses.
The ambassador said his country appreciates the “great leadership” by President Uhuru Kenyatta that has enabled the Ticad conference to be held in Africa for the first time.
TICAD, first held in 1993, is an worldwide forum of high-level political engagement between Africa and Japan, which provides a platform for discussion on matters of national and regional development. “Together Japan and Africa will be able to commit in resolving these challenges”, he said.
All the African Heads of State and Government of Japan as well as other dignitaries will be expected to participate in the TICAD VI Summit.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is among speakers at the latest global trade meeting in Nairobi.
He said that he had come with a delegation of about 1,000 businesspeople from Japan’s top 75 companies, all of whom have a strong interest in Africa’s growth, including the chairman of the Japan Business Federation, Sadayuki Sakakibara.
It will focus on promoting structural economic transformation through diversification and industrialisation; promoting resilient health system for quality life and promoting social stability for shared prosperity.

An Executive Mansion release dated 25 August says the Sixth TICAD Summit which takes place in Nairobi, Kenya aims at identifying common priorities for accelerating sustainable development, including the growing role of the private sector in driving progress on the continent.
