His deputy James Chicha and Stephen Ara Sou, who headed the Kenyan delegation to Rio, were both arrested at Nairobi airport on their return from the Brazil Games, he added.

The glory of the Kenyan team at Rio, Brazil, during the just concluded Olympic Games was overshadowed by corruption, National Assembly Labour and Social Welfare Committee chairman David Were has said.

But secretary-general Paul, who is now in custody, claimed that Wario did not have the legal competence to disband the Nock, which is overseen by the International Olympic Committee, not the Kenyan government.

He said athletes had complained to the committee that there were problems with ticketing while others said they were forced to travel without their coaches for lack of air tickets.

Another police source said the men are being held at a police station in northeastern Nairobi, and that they are due to be charged on Monday for their chaotic management and alleged theft of official sports gear.

On Thursday, Sports Minister Hassan Wario said he had disbanded NOC-K and set up a committee to probe mismanagement.

The officials are to appear in court on September the 19th for formal charges.

Money meant for athletes’ allowances is also said to have grown wings.

Even so, Kenya had its best Olympic performance in Rio, winning six golds, six silvers, and a bronze medal.

Governor Doyo says that Wario has been very effective in supporting youth programmes and development of sports in the country.

Three top Olympic officials have already been arrested in the investigation, and the raid turned up dozens of boxes containing uniforms provided by sports goods manufacturer NIKE that were destined to be worn by athletes at the Rio opening ceremony.

Following Kenya’s long-running doping crisis, the track and field team manager was sent home from the games after allegations emerged that he had sought bribes from undercover reporters in Kenya in return for helping athletes avoid doping tests.

The two were arriving from Brazil with members of the Olympic team, amid some claims from athletes about being left to live in hard conditions after the Olympic Village closed.
