Kenyan police search agents’ hotel rooms at Olympic trials
Federico Rosa, who manages several top Kenyan athletes, was arrested by Kenyan police and questioned earlier in the week over doping allegations that continue to plague Kenya.

The affidavit, signed by Police Chief Inspector Joseph Indeke and presented to the Nairobi Chief Magistrate’s Court, also accused Rosa of “preventing some of them from their lawful exercise of their profession” due to doping.
Rosa and his son Federico were grilled for hours at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (Ant-Narcotics Unit) on Monday and Tuesday.
Last week’s Olympic trials featured global stars like 800-meter Olympic champion and world-record holder David Rudisha, and Asbel Kiprop, the three-time world champion in the 1,500 meters.
Jeptoo who won Boston and Chicago Marathons in 2013 and 2014 was handed a two-year suspension by Athletics Kenya after producing positive drug test results for the performance drug, Erythropoietin (EPO).
Athletes and officials, and Kenya’s anti-doping authorities, have all been mired in problems.
Despite a series of doping cases, Kenya has been cleared by the IAAF to send a track and field team to next month’s Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
In court, Rosa’s lawyer objected to his client’s continued detention.
The company run by the Rosa pair also represents the likes of half marathon specialist Matthew Kisorio, who served a doping ban until last year, and Agatha Jeruto, who was banned for four years in October after she tested positive for Norandrosterone. Those who have been managed by Rosa & Associati include former Boston City Marathon and Chicago Marathon victor Rita Jeptoo, who failed an out-of-competition test for the banned blood-booster EPO.
The hearing took place yesterday, with CAS stating that Jeptoo “joined the initial phase of the hearing by telephone but opted to leave the hearing during opening statements”, before proceeding in her absence.
The police “never found anything” when they searched their hotel rooms on Friday in Eldoret, where the trials were held, Federico Rosa said in a phone interview.
The accusations against Rosa are unclear. He couldn’t be reached for comment Wednesday.

Rosa & Associati was previous year banned from working in Kenya for six months, along with Volare Sports agency, by Athletics Kenya due to the volume of their athletes who have tested positive.
