Kepler homers again; Twins hang on to beat Indians 10

Salazar went just two innings, which doubled as the standout right-hander’s shortest outing as a big-league starter, in Cleveland’s 12-5 loss to Minnesota.

The Minnesota Twins aren’t impressed that the Cleveland Indians lead the American League in pitching.

Kepler batted in the eighth inning with a chance to become the first Twins player to hit four home runs in a game, but he grounded out.

For the second straight night an Indians’ starter was pounded by the Twins.

Encarnacion launched his 29th home run to lead off the fourth – a monstrous shot that bounced off the railroad tracks at Minute Maid Park before landing in left field.

Gibson said, “I had two outs in the fifth and was one out away from getting out of it, but I couldn’t get it. That’s too long, so we wanted to shake the rust off”.

The Twins won the first two games of the four-game series, as they continue to give the Indians fits.

Ryan Pressly (6-5), who retired Napoli with two on to end the sixth, pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Entering Tuesday the Twins’ bullpen ranked third-worst in the AL and 23rd overall with a 4.30 ERA. The right-hander has an 8.84 ERA over his past four starts, totaling only 18 1/3 innings. “I have to be better than that, try to locate more of my pitches”.

But Eddie Rosario led off the top of the second inning by hitting a line drive into the seats in right field for his sixth home run, tying the game at 3. The Indians, who were atop the division by a season-high 7 1/2 games on July 20, are 4-7 against the last-place Twins.

Danny Duffy pitched eight innings of one-hit ball and had a franchise-record 16 strikeouts to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night. “I want to find out what’s going on, so I know what’s in there”. “That turned out to be the case”. He walked three times Tuesday and leads AL rookies in homers (15) and RBIs (46).

The six earned runs were the most Gibson had allowed since the Washington Nationals pinned seven on him in just three innings on April 22. He landed on the disabled list with a lower back problem a few days later. Monday night Danny Salazar ended up on the disabled list after the beating he took. “It snowballed on him and he couldn’t stop it”.

Max Kepler had a good week Monday night. Former closer Cody Allen relieved him in the eighth to get Mauer to hit into a inning-ending double play.

“Crazy”, Sano said of that decision. He allowed six runs in that span and has seen his otherwise-exemplary season deteriorate to a point where a medical analysis is necessary.
