Kerala cleric held for radicalising 12 youth to join Islamic State

Dreaded terror group Islamic State is making all efforts to make its presence in India, the number of arrests in a last few months indicates.

In a joint operation carried out by the Mumbai Police Crime Branch and the Kerala Police, Muhammad Haneef, a cleric who allegedly radicalised 21 youths from the southern state to join the globally banned terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS), was taken into custody Saturday.

The father of Ashfaque Ahmed, one of the 21 missing Kerala youth, had filed a complaint accusing four people of radicalising his son to join ISIS.

Meanwhile District Police Chief Kori Sanjay Kuma Gurudin, told Express that a person has been taken into custody following an information from the Mumbai. “Verification is on. As of now, we can not conclude if he has any links with IS”, Kannur District Police Chief Kori Sanjaykumar Gurudin said.

Mumbai Police has also rushed to Kannur to question the arrested IS suspect.

Hanif is reported to have worked as preacher in various places, police said. He was taken into custody from a mosque (Salafi Masjid ) at Pullukara in Peringathur near Panoor in Kannur district, following the information from Mumbai police, last night.However, police said they have not got any information while questioning him about the links with IS.

They include four women and three children.
