Kerala House beef row: State govt threatens legal action, buffalo meat back

“It’s because of the news”, an official at Kerala House said.

Deputy leader in Rajya Sabha, KN Balagopal, said they would take up the incident and raise the issue of killings in the name of consumption of beef when Parliament meets next month.

“So, when a complaint regarding serving of beef was made to the police control room, Delhi Police should have alerted the animal husbandry department which would then take a call on inspecting the Kerala House canteen”, said a central government officer requesting anonymity.

A day after the national outrage over the raid, the Kerala government maintained that the Delhi police’s action has affected Centre-state relations.

Gupta had misinformed the police about cow meat being served at the venue, when it was the buffalo meat on the menu.

Delhi Police, it seems, did commit a procedural lapse by directly responding to a complaint on Tuesday alleging that banned meat was being served at the Kerala House canteen.

“The raid conducted without the permission of state officials at the state-run official guest house crossed all limits of propriety, violated law and also affected Centre-State relations”, Mr Chandy said in Thiruvananthapuram.

“We have resumed selling buffalo meat in the canteen and most people are asking for the dish”.

Chandy has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against the police officers who raided Kerala House.

The state guest house was “raided” by Delhi Police on Monday after a leader of a fringe right-wing outfit Hindu Sena complained that beef was being served there.

Delhi Police had come under the attack from various quarters, including the Kerala government, for failing to contact the Resident Commissioner before they “raided” the Kerala House canteen.

Interestingly, an English menu board placed at the counter of the restaurant announced that “Meat fry” and “Meat curry”, with “buffalo” mentioned in brackets, was available on Wednesday. “Our prepared stock was enough to serve 150 persons during the lunch hours”, he said.

Delhi’s ruling Aam Admi Party(AAP) demanded sacking of Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi for allegedly “misguiding” the nation on the beef row in Kerala House issue and justifying “criminal trespass” of its premises on rumours of beef being served there.

He told media today, “The Delhi Police explanation is unacceptable”.
