While an examination of Mani’s viscera at the Regional Chemical Examiner’s Laboratory at Kakkanad found traces of pesticides, the preliminary examinations at the hospital in Kochi had not found anything of the sort.

Another fact is, that Kalabhavan Mani’s relationship with his wife Nimmi and family was strained, even though they tried to keep it under wraps.

Forensic Report revealed a very unsafe Insecticide, “Chlorpyrifos”, was found in the body of versatile actor Kalabhavan Mani.

Kalabhavan Mani was admitted in an unconscious state to a private hospital in Kochi on March 5. “This is what is normally taken by people who want to commit suicide”. Currently, they are kept in police custody and two more actors Jaffer Iduki, Tharikida Sabu are also in the suspects list. The pesticide is used to increase the potency of spurious liquor, the report said, which also indicated the presence of methanol and ethanol content in the body of the actor.

After his death, hospital authorities reported the presence of a chemical in the body, leading to speculation that he may not have died a natural death. “Murder charge must be slapped on them at the earliest”, said Mani’s brother RLV Ramakrishnan. Nimmy said that her husband who overcame many challenges in his life boldly can never run away from life like this.

“There were no family problems between us”, she told reporters.

A police official attached to the Cheranalloor police station in Ernakulam, which was alerted about the poisoning, said, “As the actor suffered from liver cirrhosis and those who brought him to the hospital told the doctors that he had consumed liquor the previous night, the hospital may have only tested the blood for the presence of methyl alcohol”.

“I was in Chalakkudy for a shoot that day and after…”

“Government will take a decision after getting to know the views of the family on the issue”, he said.

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the police probe was headed in the right direction. Actor and Lok Sabha MP Innocent has also sought a probe to unravel the mystery.
