Kerber into second US Open semi-final
Caroline Wozniacki did not deny that she could retire at the end of the 2016-2017 season, as revealed by her father and coach Piotr earlier.

So imagine the little ripple of surprise Wozniacki caused the other day after she’d upset Keys – playing some tennis that was nearly as immaculate as her win over Sevastova – and actually bragged a little, saying, “I think it sucks for some of the other players to have to play me early” in tournaments. “I remember the match also in Cincinnati where I have the chance to reach it with the win there”.
TOP PLAYERS ON COURT MONDAY (Fourth Round): Men: No. 2 Andy Murray vs. “It’s really nice to be back here, it’s a special tournament”, Kerber said.
“It happened early in the match and then I kept pushing her back and tried to make her move”, the Dane told ESPN court-side.
But one thing Keys has proved this week is you can never count her out.
“I think it was a tough match, Petra is a really great player”.
And she did it the old fashioned way. She now comes forward more, cracking hard shots off both her forehand and backhand. “If you miss it’s fine, but at least you tried and you did what you needed to do”, added the Dane, who’s been showing increased aggression throughout her run here in NY.
“But we hang out and we have coffees and sit and talk and have a good time”.
“For now I will train without a coach like at the beginning of the season, but of course that’s not the final state of things”, added the 2011 and 2014 Wimbledon victor. She failed to win a single match in the Australian Open, did not play in the French Open and bowed out again in the first round at Wimbledon. “I’m happy with that and where my game is”. “Once you’re in the second week it seems a little bit closer and I feel like sometimes I definitely get ahead of myself and I start thinking how much I want it”.
“I know that I can beat everybody”, Kerber said, “and this is what gives me also a lot of confidence and motivation”.
It was the first time in 89 years that three French men had reached the quarter-finals of the USA championships.
“I love to play here, I love this crowd”, Vinci said. She’s been playing really well this year. It’s going to be an interesting match, but you have think Kerber will be the favorite.
But for Wozniacki, ranking like age, is just a number. I think the competition is good with her. It’s something Kerber is not used to, which makes it a hard task. “I think that right now, I can win matches like that”. “Go for it, being aggressive”. Despite the whirling, Wonziacki, once the top-ranked player in the world, proved efficient in identifying the Latvian’s limits. “I’m playing Tokyo in a week’s time”.

The remaining quarter-finals take place on Wednesday with world number one Williams facing fifth seed Simona Halep of Romania and Croatian teenager Ana Konjuh facing fellow big-hitter, Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic. “He’s an “A” list celebrity, but I don’t feel like it”.
