Assistant Luke Walton will continue to lead the team as he has since Kerr first took a leave of absence earlier in October.
Kerr’s status is still indefinite and it’s unknown when he will able to rejoin the Warriors, which faces the Pelicans (twice), Houston Rockets, Grizzlies and Los Angeles Clippers in their first five games of the regular season.
Walton was informed Friday that he would be coaching the team into the season. “I talked to Steve”. “I guess we don’t value experience around here”. Luke Walton will continue to serve as interim head coach until Kerr is able to return.
Warriors general manager, Bob Meyers made the announcement.
“We’re going to prepare the same”.
“Luke is going to start the season as the head coach – I believe you all probably believed that was the case, but I wanted to make it official in a few sense”, Myers told reporters, according to SFGate.
As he spoke, about 50 feet away, Kerr chatted with team owner Joe Lacob after attending the practice dressed in his customary coaching garb (shorts and long-sleeve T-shirt).
Kerr underwent back surgery on July 28 to fix an injury he suffered during the National Basketball Association Finals. “He”s a smart guy, and he”ll know when he”s back.”. “Don”t come back until you”re ready. We still want Steve out there.
While there is still no timetable for Kerr’s return, he was present at practice and seems to be improving, talking to the team after practice. “So you know those teams have been sitting around all summer salivating, waiting to get another chance at us.”.
“You’d think if you wore it before, you’d get used it”, Bogut said.
