After the press conference, Mr Putin regaled Russian media with praise for Donald Trump, calling him an “outstanding, unquestionably talented man”. Putin declared that Turkey has “decided to lick the Americans in a certain place”, and that Turkey is working with the US and against him.
The Russian plan for settling the conflict “strangely as it may seem, coincides with the USA vision in its key aspects: joint work on a constitution, creation of instruments of control over future early elections, holding the vote and recognizing its results on the basis of that political process”, Putin said.
“He’s running his country and at least he’s a leader, unlike what we have in this country”, Trump said when asked by “Morning Joe” Republican host Joe Scarborough about Putin’s alleged killing of journalists and political opponents.
“Had [Mr. Erdogan] known the consequences would be as dramatic as they are now, I don’t think he would have gone for it”, Mr. Kiniklioglu said in an interview in Ankara.
Putin also accused Turkey s leaders of overseeing a “creeping Islamisation” of the country “which would probably cause (modern Turkey s founding father Mustafa Kemal) Ataturk to turn in his grave”.
Turkey has voiced concern about Russian air raids in northern Syria because of the Turkmen minority in the area, a Turkic-speaking people who have had an uneasy relationship with the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. Russians now say they admire Putin more for a role as a “protector” from external threats than for the role of “provider”, a study by an influential Russian sociologist, Mikhail E. Dmitriyev, concluded this year. If they, on the other hand, start making ill-considered and rush decisions believing the right moment has come for a deal with Putin, they will drive themselves and Ukraine into a dead-end for many years, the expert says.
“We will help settle this crisis in every possible way, and we will try to find solutions acceptable for all parties”, he said.
“Turkey used to violate Syrian airspace all the time”, Putin said.
“They also exchanged views on the pressing issues of the socio-economic agenda, including on the prospects for changes in the global energy markets”, Peskov said.
“Certainly, we welcome it”, Putin said.
“I know that there are our Turkmen, living in Turkmenistan”, he said, referring to the ex-Soviet Central Asian country.
Lavrov for his part said he was also ready to discuss any bilateral issues Kerry deemed important. We want to get rid of ISIS. Moscow has said that the crash was caused by a bomb on the plane, and the Islamic State group claimed responsibility.

Putin brushed aside a question about the cost to Russia’s struggling economy of the bombing campaign in Syria.
