Kershaw shuts out Mets

The Los Angeles Dodgers have never lost when dropping four runs into the lap of their ace left-hander while he was in the game.

Maeda served up both bombs to his counterpart, and ironically, Syndergaard showed bunt, unable to advance the runners before swinging away at a 80MPH slider one pitch later. They do not want a repeat of that, and will take all the necessary precautions this time.

In addition to allowing just two runs in eight innings on Wednesday, Syndergaard clubbed two home runs, making the elbow checkup news an alarming sidebar to an otherwise stellar night for Thor.

Chase Utley added a two-out homer in the second for a 5-0 lead.

– Yankees third baseman Chase Headley recorded his first extra-base hit of the season when he sent an offering by the Royals’ Ian Kennedy into the seats in the second inning. Grandal homered on Syndergaard’s first pitch leading off the fourth for a 2-1 lead. Los Angeles is 91-6 in those contests. “He was on his game and you can’t let him have a lead like he has”.

In his eighth major league start, Maeda allowed four earned runs on six hits, struck out three and walked two. He struck out three and walked none in losing for the first time since April 9.

“I was throwing strikes and they were jumping on my first pitches”, Colon said through a translator.

The last major league pitcher to homer twice in a game was Arizona’s Micah Owings, who accomplished the feat against Atlanta on August 18, 2007. The lefty was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day after Wilmer Flores landed on the disabled list with a strained hamstring.

The 42-year-old Colon hit a home run Saturday in San Diego, becoming the oldest player in major league history to hit his first career homer.

Colon only had his one at-bat against Kershaw because he endured his roughest start of the season by allowing a season-high in runs on seven hits while striking out three.

ATLANTA – Cameron Rupp delivered a bases-loaded double with two outs in the 10th inning to propel Philadelphia past Atlanta.

The Mets had to settle for a split in the four-game series and fell to 4-4 on a marathon road trip that will continue Friday in Colorado.

Blue Jays (18-18) at Rangers (20-15), 8:05 p.m. ET: Toronto has yet to reach the heights of last season, but the talent is there for them to go on a run.

The other Mets starters stymied the Dodgers in the first three games, but Colon’s soft-tossing -compared to the young flamethrowers – ways didn’t produce the same results.
