Kessler set to start Sunday

Cleveland’s endless quarterback dilemma has served as fertile ground for wiseacres, funnymen and quip-machines since the turn of the century.

Browns coach Hue Jackson said McCown is considered week to week going forward due to his injury. Like I said, pretty soon maybe I’ll be playing. The team’s starter at the beginning of the season, Robert Griffin III, also suffered a left shoulder injury that has him out for 8-12 weeks.

After losing two starting quarterbacks in each of their first two games, the Cleveland Browns added veteran signal-caller Charlie Whitehurst, his agents announced Monday. “Cody will be out there playing”. He has started nine games over an eight-year career.

In all, he has 10 touchdown passes and seven picks in his 25 games and has never played in more than seven in an individual season. Acquiring Whitehurst makes much more sense than promoting rookie quarterback Kevin Hogan from the practice squad. Josh McCown is “week to week” with a left shoulder injury. Kessler did get some snaps with the first team in practice last week.

Although he was briefly taken to the locker room, McCown refused to come out of the game and did not miss a single offensive snap. Afterward, he became emotional when he talked about wanting to stay on the field with his teammates. “They fight until the very end and you have to give them credit”. Neither team has looked impressive from start to finish this season as the Browns blew a lead against the Baltimore Ravens and Miami fell to 31-3 against the New England Patriots before attempting a late comeback in week two.

“It’s just not wanting to not be out there with your guys, ” McCown said Sunday, via Cleveland.com.

Kessler is no stranger to getting sacked in his limited experience at the National Football League level, as he was sacked a total of seven times throughout the four preseason games.

Kessler, a third-round pick from USC this year, is expected to start Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

Kessler was selected number 93 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft. “If that did happen, I had the mindset of going in as the starter”. “That is what we are going to call it. We’ll see what that statement is all about”.

If there are doubters, so be it.

“But for me, I said I don’t want to change”. “I’ve been like that my whole life”. “There were a couple plays in there that we needed to get back”. I have nothing but respect for them and the way they play. “I have to continue to prepare as the starter, and I told you guys that from Day 1”.
