Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, issued a statement recognizing the “incredibly hard news for the Vermonters affected by these layoffs”. The Kold was priced at $370 (let’s not forget the price of the pods) which would admittedly have gotten you crates of soda for that price, which is why it seems that in less than a year, Keurig has made a decision to pull the plug. As noted by the Associated Press, the Keurig Kold lasted less than one year before the company chose to shut down production of the hardware.

Unfortunately, the Keurig Kold encountered mulitple stumbling blocks when initially brought to market. The $299-$369 price tag (plus regular pod purchases) always seemed out of touch.

In addition to a high price point for the hardware, pods were boxed in a pack of four for as much as $5. The pods, used to make an 8-ounce drink, were available for $1.25.
Keurig is discontinuing its new Kold brewer and offering refunds to customers who bought the product. Keurig worked with Coca-Cola to produce a line of sodas based off popular drinks such as Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Sprite and Fanta.
The company also said Monday that it will lay off 130 workers, mostly in Vermont where the company is headquartered.
The news comes just 10 months after the Kold brewers landed on store shelves.
The governor said he was told other operations at Keurig would not be affected.
Keurig Green Mountain is laying off more than 100 workers in Vermont, according to WCAX-TV.

But Keurig also indicated it may not abandon the idea altogether.
