Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle has been fired; the organization has named Lou Anarumo his replacement.
Miami entered the year as a playoff contender largely due to its expected defensive output.
Coyle had been Miami’s DC since 2012 which followed on an already long coaching career.
“I’d love to say that, ‘Hey, we’re going to have this thing done immediately.’ That’s just not reality…I’ve got to make sure I’m making the best decision I can for the Miami Dolphins”.
Jeff Burris was promoted to assistant defensive backs coach as well as part of Thursday’s moves. Anarumo had previously worked with Joe Philbin while they were coaches and Harvard, and Anarumo has been the Dolphins defensive backs coach since 2012.
Assistant coach Blue Adams will continue to work with the safeties.

The Dolphins, 1-3 and losers of three in a row, now rank 30th in the National Football League in yards allowed and 32nd in run defense. For one, the Dolphins reportedly reached out to Jim Schwartz and asked him if he wanted the defensive coordinator role, a request that happened while Coyle was still employed as Miami’s coordinator.
