Hi everybody. Russell Westbrook and the OKC thunder, have agreed to a 3 year contract worth $85.7 million dollars.

Westbrook is set to make nearly $9 million more this season under his new contract.

Westbrook has financial incentive to delay free agency beyond 2017.

Talks between the sides centered around the addition of two more years to Westbrook’s current deal, which expires after the 2016-17 season.

The news is a consolation for the franchise, coming almost one month after Westbrook’s fellow All-Star Kevin Durant left for the Golden State Warriors.

On Wednesday night, Russell Westbrook and the Oklahoma City Thunder reportedly reached an agreement on a new contract that would keep him in Oklahoma City until at least the 2017-2018 season. Hence, head coach Billy Donovan and general manager Sam Presti can now sleep a whole lot better with the assurance that they don’t have to look for some other star to rebuild the team.

Two years from now will mark the completion of his tenth National Basketball Association season, barring anything out of the ordinary, making him eligible for such a deal.

Russell Westbrook finally broke the silence if he remains in Oklahoma City after his teammate superstar Kevin Durant left.

The two played together in Oklahoma City for eight seasons, earning a playoff spot six times and making it to the NBA Finals once.

Don’t hold your breath though that Westbrook is 100% keen on sticking around in OKC for the long term…

However, the departure of Durant became Westbrook’s biggest opportunity to make the Thunder officially his team. Westbrook killed all the speculations by signing a contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday.

Griffin teaming up with Westbrook could be trouble for the Warriors, though perhaps not more so than the now-defunt combo of Westbrook and Durant.
