Kevin Durant won’t congratulate Russell Westbrook on new contract yet

After eight seasons playing with Westbrook in Oklahoma City, Durant signed a two-year, $54.3 million contract with the Golden State Warriors on July 4. “Loyalty is something I stand by”.

Now that Westbrook’s extension with Oklahoma City is official, Durant, naturally, was asked what he thinks about that surprising development.

Westbrook last season tied Magic Johnson for the most triple-doubles in the last 50 years, with an NBA-high 18.

“I talked to Kevin early on in the process”. Just a photo of him at midcourt of Chesapeake Arena, letting out one of his signature screams in front of a sellout crowd. “Nah, that’s a touchy subject”, Durant added. “I really don’t know what to say”.

“There’s no need to wait if you know where you want to be”.

“As excited as I am, I’m also grateful because you have an opportunity for a legacy player to put his stamp on continuing with the organization”, Presti said.

If the Thunder did not strike an extension with Westbrook, the Heat could have had the chance to land him either via trade or free agency, but most likely it would have been the latter.

Michael Jordan said the Oklahoma City Thunder star reminded him of himself as a young player with the Chicago Bulls. The fact of the matter is he could depart Oklahoma City in just a few years.

According to the report, the five-time NBA All-Star Westbrook’s salary for next season increases from $17.8 million to $26.5 million. He finished fourth in the MVP balloting. His competitiveness, character, and unique athletic ability have propelled him to the forefront of the game. “Russell personifies numerous traits that are synonymous with Oklahoma and Oklahomans”.

Westbrook averaged 21.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 7.6 assists in the seven years that he played in OKC.

Westbrook now takes charge of a Thunder franchise that’s made the playoffs six of the last seven seasons but is still without an National Basketball Association championship since it moved from Seattle to OKC in ’08.
