Las Palmas sporting chief Toni Cruz has revealed the club signed injury-prone midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng for marketing purposes.

The Rossoneri opted not to retain the former Ghana worldwide after his contract expired at the end of last season.

Boateng is described as the “most important foreign player to join the club in decades” on the club website.

Boateng arrives in Spain after a short second spell at AC Milan during the second half of last season.

He originally came through the Hertha Berlín youth system before signing for Tottenham in 2007 at the age of 20.

Las Palmas’ close relationship with Boateng’s agents Edoardo and Federico Pastorello is said to have been a major factor in the deal materialising.
