Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer has signed a contract that runs until 2021, the Premier League club have announced.
He’s set to become one of the highest paid players at the club, with the new deal said to be paying in the region of £70,000 per week, almost twice the wage packet that he signed when moving from Sporting Lisbon two years ago.
Speaking about his delight at having got the opportunity to sign a new contract, the youngster said that the chance to extend his stay at the club was something very important for him.
He impressed in place of the injured Jan Vertonghen last season and is set to begin the new campaign as the left-sided centre-half after Vertonghen picked up another injury with Belgium at Euro 2016.
‘I thought we played very well at times and there were some very positive periods in the game for us.
Dier, who will become one of the club’s best-paid players on around £70,000-a-week, was one of Tottenham’s stand-out performers last season after being converted into a defensive midfielder by manager Mauricio Pochettino.
