Key matchup: Seahawks defense against Vikings running back Adrian Peterson

Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seahawks have won their last five games on the road, including a win over Minnesota on December 6. “We’ve got to go (Saturday) to see if he’s OK from (Friday’s practice)”. “There’s a sensitivity. You’re more vulnerable whether you’re handing it off or tossing it”.

Marshawn Lynch has been listed as questionable for the Seattle Seahawks’ wild-card game at Minnesota, while tight end Luke Willson is out due to a concussion. We just want to see how he’s taken to the week’s work and all of that. The Vikings’ punter, Jeff Locke, went to high school in Phoenix and college at UCLA. Their offense is very unbalanced; the Vikes rank fourth in both rushing yards (138 per game) and yards per carry (4.7), but their passing game is non existent by today’s standards.

Over the next three weekends Seattle is going to have to win more road playoff games than it has in the franchise’s 40-year history.

Wilson toasted the Vikings in the first match-up, and he did a lot of his damage on plays where he was allowed to get outside the pocket and keep plays alive. “I’m really proud of him that he saw what it is, and he’s kinda been around here and there and kicked around and then he came back, and he’s really tried to be what we’ve always asked him to be”.

“I think that could affect the game just as far as making the ball a little slicker, and things like that”, Minnesota safety Harrison Smith said. Lynch hasn’t played in a game since November 15 against the Arizona Cardinals. “Nobody likes being cold, but you’ve got to be comfortable being uncomfortable”, Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs said. Dunno if that was a tiebreaker in RB Marshawn Lynch’s decision to say to teammates Friday, “You go ahead, I’ll be fine”, but it’s hard to fault the logic. He’s really serious about fitting in, and it feels like he’s matured in the sense that makes him a great candidate to play for us. He’s one of the toughest running backs to play in the NFL. “We’re going into it with the best mentality that we can, knowing that it’s going to be a cold game”. That includes game after game of postseason excellence, starting with the legendary Beast Quake run against New Orleans in his very first playoff game that actually caused seismographic activity at CenturyLink Field.

For the Minnesota Vikings, they will have the 38-7 loss to these Seahawks just a few weeks ago in this stadium on their minds but they can rest assure that the defense will be much stronger than they were on that day. If they lose, it’s had to imagine Lynch coming back, considering his diminished production this season at an age when running backs typically break down.

Well, the Seahawks have returned for a rematch, and the Vikings won’t be extending a warm welcome. He started and played in the Vikings Week 16 playoff-clinching victory over the New York Giants, but did not look completely healthy and sat out the NFC North title clinching Week 17 win over the Green Packers at Lambeau Field.

In their regular-season demolition of the Vikings, the Seahawks provided a primer on nullifying the NFL’s best running back.
