Keystone pipeline ready for restart after repairs completed
It was built with advanced leak-detection technology that TransCanada touted when promoting construction of the 36-inch Keystone XL pipeline.

Cooper says engineers evaluated a fix method in conjunction with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration.
Soils were tested for the presence of oil, with saturated soils separated from clean soils, said Mark Yeomans, the company’s vice president of pipeline integrity.
Oil covered a 300-square-foot area in a farm field ditch 4 miles from a Freeman-area pump station, about 40 miles southwest of Sioux Falls.
The company has told customers the pipeline will remain closed until early next week.
The leak was found on Saturday, and it caused a key part of the pipeline to be turned off.
TransCanada said it has not “observed significant impacts to the environment” and there are no “significant” bodies of water nearby. Canadian heavy crude differentials, the discount of Canadian crude against the US benchmark, widened on news of the prolonged shutdown. But while the environmental impact is not big, Mabee says the incident will have a much greater impact on future pipeline debates.
One of the French police officials said Abrini is believed to be the man in the hat who was last seen leaving the Brussels airport after the double explosion there.
The Keystone pipeline can handle 550,000 barrels, or about 23 million gallons, daily.
The Keystone pipeline runs from Alberta, Canada, to Texas, running through eastern North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska.
“As we continue to verify the integrity of the pipeline, that pressure will be increased”, Cooper said from Calgary. What is criminal is that if not for an observant landowner, it appears that TransCanada would have ignored the spill if it was not picked up by local media.

In a shipper notice, TransCanada also said it was curtailing shipments on its pipeline by 35 percent for the remainder of April. With all the work we’ve done, we haven’t yet identified a source.
