That might still happen one day, but today Nurmagomedov is losing his never-ending battle against the injury bug.

Khabib Nurmagomedov can’t seem to stay healthy.

UFC is now trying to get Edson Barboza to step in and face Ferguson on short notice, according to MMA Fighting.

Undefeated UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov has withdrawn from his December 11 fight with Tony Ferguson due to a rib injury, sources told MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani. The Russian fighter has not fought since April 2014, where he beat the now UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos via unanimous decision.

It’s an unfortunate situation as many believe that Nurmagomedov has what it takes to become champion at 155lbs and his flawless 22-0 career record, including a 6-0 stint in the UFC so far, certainly backs that up. He suffered a knee injury that took him out of a planned fight with Donald Cerrone at UFC 178 last September, then another that took him out of that same matchup for UFC 187 in May.

The TUF 22 Finale will be headlined by the UFC featherweight scrap between Frankie Edgar and Chad Mendes.
