Khan used his speed to earn the advantage in the opening rounds only to be sent crashing in Las Vegas as Alvarez caught him flush on the chin with a big right hand.
Khan, who has now lost four of his 35 fights, also reassured fans on social media that he had not suffered any lasting from Alvarez’s bludgeoning right-hand despite going to hospital as a precaution.
Khan was jumping two weight classes to challenge Alvarez, having never fought above welterweight previously.
Harshly for Khan, by some distance the smaller fighter in the ring, only one of the three judges had him leading at the time of the stoppage. This is boxing. I wanted to get in there. I’m telling you one thing, he can beat anyone at 147 [lbs] or 154.
Canelo Alvarez did the job that was expected on Saturday, knocking out Amir Khan in six rounds. He acquitted himself well in a few fights at welterweight, and is now set to take on the larger Alvarez at a catchweight of 155 pounds. “Golovkin is a great fighter but not what they make him out to be”.
The road for Canelo to get the fight everyone has been actually waiting for just got shorter. Khan was supposed to have a speed advantage coming into Saturday’s highly-anticipated bout, but it didn’t matter all that much when the final blow landed.

Boxing: Canelo Alvarez knocks out Amir Khan in brutal fashion.
The 29-year-old will come back down in weight and the natural fight for him remains fellow Brit Kell Brook. “It’s good to win by knockout but you don’t really want to hurt or injure anybody”. “Golovkin, make sure you answer your phone tomorrow morning”, De La Hoya said. If Alvarez does not accept a fight, he could be stripped of his title by the WBC.
