Khizr Khan Says Trump Should Have ‘Patience And Tolerance For Criticism’
So when Karen Meredith heard about the grieving parents of a decorated Muslim Army captain being disparaged by Donald True, she cried.

After Khizr Khan, the father of Humayun Khan, gave a speech denouncing Trump at the Democratic National Convention, the Republican nominee responded by suggesting that his wife, Ghazala Khan, was silent because she is Muslim. Trump stoked outrage by implying that Ghazala Khan did not speak while standing alongside her husband at last week’s Democratic convention due to their Muslim faith.
One Republican member of the Texas congressional delegation, U.S. Rep. Mac Thornberry of Clarendon, said in a prepared statement that he is “dismayed at the attacks Khizr and Ghazala Khan have endured after they spoke about their son’s service and sacrifice”.
Meanwhile, outside Trump Towers in NY, protesters said the comments about the Khan family were part of a wider attack. “Maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say”. She had nothing to say.
“It has become abundantly clear that Donald Trump shares the cruelty and recklessness of Joseph McCarthy as well as his lack of decency”.
At one point, Trump had disputed Khan’s criticism that the billionaire businessman has “sacrificed nothing and no one” for his country. “I like people that weren’t captured”, he said.
Not mentioning Trump by name, Scott went on to seemingly characterize the entire kerfuffle as a distraction from the general election, on which he said Republicans needed to hone in, now. I can not emphasize enough how deeply I disagree with Mr. Trump’s statement. But belittling the family of a fallen soldier – and espousing policies that would have prevented that family’s move to America had they been in effect – say nothing meaningful about that debate.
Sen. John McCain accused Donald Trump of defaming Khizr Khan and argued the Republican presidential candidate does not represent the GOP.
Democratic pollster Paul Maslin said that while “ninety-nine per cent of me says this is devastating for Trump”, Clinton backers can’t assume that another few days of bad headlines will sink a candidate who “simply defies all natural laws of American politics”.
“There is no greater sacrifice than to lay down one’s life for their country, and that’s the sacrifice that Captain Humayun Khan made fighting to defend our freedom and our constitutional rights”, Ayotte said in a statement. “I work very, very hard”.
For some of Trump’s allies, the dispute is just the latest example of a troubling pattern: The real estate mogul hitting back at perceived slights or insults, regardless of the political implications. Joni Ernst, a Red Oak Republican and a former officer in the Iowa National Guard with combat experience during her 23-year military career, said: “We as a nation are incredibly grateful to Capt. Khan’s service and ultimate sacrifice – as well as the sacrifices of his parents – to keep us safe and free”.
Pence’s statement came after an afternoon of debate among his aides as to whether he should find a way to dissociate himself subtly from Trump’s comments, according to a person familiar with the internal campaign conversations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss them publicly. It goes on to state that Khan has ties to Hillary Clinton because he once worked at a law firm with ties to the Clinton Foundation.
McCain, who has endorsed Trump and is in a tough re-election battle, correctly blasted Trump for his attack on the Khans.
“I’d like to say to Mr. and Mrs. Khan: thank you for immigrating to America”. Khan took his criticism a step further, holding up a copy of the U.S. Constitution and asking if Trump had ever read it.
