During the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), the majority of the public’s attention was on the debut of the Kia Telluride Concept, which is pretty sweet. Power ratings and fuel economy figures will be released closer to launch, while 2017 Koup details will be released at a later date. The EX trim is still equipped with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder and six-speed automatic.

The US-spec Forte gains a new 2.0 litre four-cylinder multi-point injection (MPI) petrol engine that replaces the previous 1.8 litre unit.

Keep an eye out for the refreshed Forte and Forte5 to land in dealerships in the first half of 2016.

The 2017 Forte and Forte5 get upgraded materials, new stitching and softer-touch surfaces (in this case, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter on S models).

Four-door functionThe 2017 Forte sedan will get the same updated six-speed automatic as the Forte5, but misses out on the SX’s sporty turbo engine and dual-clutch gearbox.

Both the sedan and hatch models have been treated to a new look inspired by the Kia Optima K5. Around back, revised taillights complete the exterior redesign, and higher trim levels go one step further with standard LED daytime running lights and taillights.

Both members of the duo received visual changes for the 2017 model year, but it was the hatch that underwent the most dramatic cosmetic transformation. The Forte5 lineup is unchanged, with LX, EX, and SX models.

Android Auto and Apple Car Play will have late availability on the Forte and Forte5. The biggest changes are found on the Forte5 EX, where formerly optional LED taillights, leather seats, heated front seats, push-button start with Smart Key and perimeter approach lighting become standard equipment along with UVO eServices that has a 7.0-inch display and the Android Auto/Apple CarPlay enhancements.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay offer smartphone apps and connectivity on the screen while you are driving. Customers can opt for a second-generation six-speed automatic transmission. The sporty SX trim comes with all that and more, including 18-inch alloy wheels, unique front and rear fascias with red accents, and dual exhaust tip finishers.
