The recall affects 2014-2016 Kia Soul and Soul EV vehicles built between January 18, 2014 and September 30, 2015.

Kia is recalling 256,459 Soul subcompact crossovers in the US for a problem that can lead to steering loss.

It’s every driver’s worst nightmare: The fear the steering wheel could fail or a few loose.

Kia says in documents filed with the government that the adhesive that holds steering gear parts together may not be strong enough and the parts can separate.

Well, a separation of steering gear is at the heart of a new recall from Kia. During the summer of 2014, Kia sent out a call back order for a number of around 52,000 Soul vehicles. The adhesive appears to have insufficient strength for the application, allowing the pinion gear to separate from the assembly. All the incidents occurred in Kia Souls.

Kia said it hasn’t received any reports or crashes or injuries.

What Owners Should Do: Kia will begin notifying owners December 22. After receiving those notices, owners will be able to take their vehicles to Kia dealers, who will inspect and replace a steering plug if necessary, reported The auto Connection.
