The Patriots host the Chicago Bears in Week 2 of the preseason on Thursday, Aug. 18 in what will be another showcase for Garoppolo before the regular season.

The New England Patriots faced the New Orleans Saints at Gillette Stadium on Thursday, for the team’s first preseason game of the 2016 National Football League season. While he didn’t account for a touchdown, he also didn’t throw any interceptions.
Saints second-round WR Michael Thomas caught 4-of-6 targets for 67 yards in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Patriots. He led the team onto the field out of the tunnel at Gillette Stadium on a night where Tom Brady was excused from the game.
Defensive end Kasim Edebali had two first-quarter sacks. White took the short pass and ran for a 56-yard gain.
“He made a tremendous play”, Garoppolo said.
Otherwise, there’s one thing we can say for certain after New England’s first preseason game of the year – Garoppolo can throw a screen pass and make a 10-yard sideline out throw. Garoppolo couldn’t finish that drive though.
“It has been a challenging 18 months and I have made the hard decision to no longer proceed with the legal process”, Brady wrote on Facebook in July. The Patriots settled for a field goal.

Garoppolo’s numbers weren’t bad. Edelman, who caught 61 balls for 692 yards and seven touchdowns last season, did a walkthrough Wednesday before leaving practice to work on conditioning, according to the Herald. Rookie Jacoby Brissett is the only other quarterback on the roster, so if Garoppolo suffers an injury or is forced to miss action, New England would need to turn to the third rounder or otherwise add a veteran.
