Mayor Gemma Adana of Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, arrived at the Majini Pier of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao in Zamboanga City on Wednesday afternoon (October 13) after being released by her captors in Sulu on Tuesday (October 12).
Joint Task Group Sulu commander Antonio Bulao said the suspected Abu Sayyaf members were arrested around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, in the village of Bud-Taran, Indanan town.
It was not known if they demanded a ransom in exchange for her release as they have for other hostages.
Though Adana’s release coincided with the filing of the certificate of candidacy for the May 2016 elections, she said her family will have to seriously take into account her harrowing experience if she decides to return to politics.
According to Arrojado, Adana has been brought to the KHTB Trauma Hospital for medical assessment before she will be transported to Zamboanga.
Six masked gunmen, all clad in camouflage uniform, barged into Adana’s house in the village of Taytay Manubo in Zamboanga Sibugay province and dragged her to a waiting speed boat.
Last March, Adana, along with four other municipal employees, was reporteddly, charged with graft by the Office of the Ombudsman for violating the Government Procurement Reform Act (RA 9184).
