“We will be coordinating our efforts with the Department of Children and Family Services to arrange for the safe return of the children to California”, Alexander said in the news release. He should be considered armed and risky.
The second suspect, Joshua Robertson, was located approximately two blocks away from the motel and both suspects were taken into custody without incident.
The children’s father died previously, but they have a grandmother in Fresno, authorities said. The toddler’s mother, who’s now in jail, left the girl in Robertson’s care.
Joshua Robertson and Brittany Humphrey are believed to be driving the victim’s green 1999 Ford Expedition, and may bear CA license plate #7BEK024, or paper plates. Humphrey is the half-sister of the dead woman, Kimberly Harvill, whose body was found near Gorman. She had multiple gunshot wounds and signs of blunt force trauma. Detectives believe they found her within 24 hours from the time she was killed.
The couple was also traveling with three other children, who they abandoned at a motel in New Mexico Wednesday. L.A. Capt. Steve Katz stated on Wednesday that the family stayed in different hotels and would rely on panhandling for daily survival.
It appears that Harvill and her children had been staying with Humphrey and Robertson, he said.
According to the Thayer County Sheriff’s Office, two wanted persons may be heading to Thayer County or the surrounding area. The three children were left at a Motel 6 in the care of a person described as a Good Samaritan who notified local law enforcement.
The father of Harvill’s children, Kenneth Chad Watkins, killed himself by lying in front of a train past year, according to the Fresno County Coroner.
“They were known to go from motel to motel”, Mendoza said.
New beginning: Harvill posted this photo on her Facebook page August 3. She was a great mom. The LA Sheriff’s Department said it is making arrangements to bring them back to California.
A search was focused outside California today for a couple wanted in connection with the death of a woman in northern Los Angeles County, as detectives try to determine the motive for her slaying and the subsequent kidnapping of her children.
