“The war for independence continues, and we can only claim victory by combining our defensive efforts, diplomatic talent, political responsibility and steely determination”.
Russian Federation ought to “quit playing with assentions”, Poroshenko said at a conciliatory get-together after his appearance at the Independence Day parade.
Ukraine celebrated the 24th anniversary of its independence from the former Soviet Union Monday. According to him, Ukraine should realize it is not helpful for its economy and independence to have a conflict with Russian Federation. “The government of Ukraine has taken no decision and all options remain on the table”.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov branded Poroshenko’s comments as “unfounded and disgraceful”, adding: “Their goal is to break the “genetic code” ensuring the unity of our nations”.
People in the city say Ukraine can not be united, as Kiev is the lackey of western powers. The popular uprising that led to the ouster of Russia-backed Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych was seen by the Kremlin as the final straw.
Pushkov said that Ukraine should be more realistic in the assessment of its economic prospects.
Russian Federation has denied helping rebels in the east, despite a large body of evidence indicating its involvement.
Donetsk and Lugansk are two mainly Russian-speaking regions in eastern Ukraine which have been hit by deadly clashes between pro-Russia forces and the Ukrainian army since Kiev launched military operations in April previous year to crush pro-Russia protests there.
The presidents of Ukraine, France and Germany are meeting this evening in Berlin to discuss a peaceful solution to the crisis.
“We are for peace, but we are not pacifists” he stated facetiously. Russian Federation and the rebels now limit OSCE access to just a fraction of the border.
