Killer storms leave 43 people dead and hundreds of homes destroyed
The governors of New Mexico, Texas and Missouri declared states of emergency for all or parts of their states over the weekend to better handle storm damage. That, plus the flooding in Missouri and IL, was the latest in a succession of severe weather events across the USA that have led to at least 45 deaths in less than a week.

The agency also reported 10 storm-related deaths. The weather service said damage indicated it was likely an EF-3 tornado, which has winds up to 165 miles per hour.
Texas Gov Greg Abbott made disaster declarations Sunday for four counties – Dallas, Collin, Rockwall and Ellis – and warned that the number of victims could rise. Dallas had a high of 82 degrees Saturday and was down to 41 on Sunday, with freezing temperatures forecast for Monday, according to CNN meteorologist Rachel Aissen. Authorities say that even in areas where the warning has expired, residual blowing and drifting is expected and will make conditions unsafe.
